We have many roles throughout our lifetime personally professionally, but how do we know if we are in the right role?
There are different cycles of life when our priorities may shift, but our values should not.
So how do we know what’s best?
For example, you could be in a leadership role in Marketing, IT, Accounting, HR, etc. However, you’re not sure you want to continue in a leadership role? Is is the work environment? Is is the team? Is it the client base you serve? Or maybe there are aspects of leadership you like land are good at, and others- maybe no so much, and you've been feeling like it's time for a change? Or would you rather go back to being an individual contributor?
Your needs evolve over time with insight and experience, and organizational needs change constantly.
More than ever we have to be accountable for our own career growth and development. And despite any societal norms, I’m a firm believer in doing what’s best for you.
So if you were at a cross roads or you thought about making a change once, twice, or three times, you owe it to yourself to spend some time thinking, exploring and working through how and where you want to go.
What do you really want?
And what do you need to live this next fulfilling chapter of your life?
To not do so as a disservice to others who need your talents.
In addition if you’re not energized and excited by what you're doing in your profession or for your organization, you are not bringing your best self to work every day and could be affecting other team members or people you work with.
You cannot discover your next step without devoting time and focus to exploring your wants and needs. I always tell people, 'Look- I don't have a crystal ball to tell you your next step.' But together, for more than 18 years, I've had the honor and pleasure of hearing people's stories and helping them get where they ultimately want to be. But, it's work. It takes time. And, there is no easy app for it.
If you know in your heart of hearts a change is right for you, but don't know how to go about it, we should chat.
