Dear Future Me...

As a freshman in high school, our youngest daughter, Lila, wrote the following poem. When I first read it, I thought how much I needed and wanted to share it with my clients and beyond. And, so with her permission, here it is:

Dear Future Me:

I have some questions.

Dear future me

I hope you can answer them.

Did you leave a mark?

A good one I hope.

one for running and jumping

And reaching for the stars.

Did you make the simple things count?

A smile.

A wave.

A blink of an eye.

Did you leave your worries behind?

Forget the bad

Forget the misperceptions

Forget the stress?

Through everything, I must know

Are you, please say,

Not only doing your best through it all

Are you happy?

As we approach the end of January, consider these questions:

  • Are you happy in your work? And if not, what factors can you change?

  • Are you still reaching for the stars? What are your stretch goals? Are you making progress?

  • What is a source of stress for you in your current role or career?

  • What is one change you can make moving forward to eliminate either the stress in your job or to regain your happiness in your work?

    • Do you need to build a job search plan?

    • Brush up your resume?

    • Start getting involved in your community?

If you feel stuck in a rut, perhaps in a way your 'future self' may not appreciate, let's chat.
