How to Make the Most of your Time in Transition
No matter if you're experiencing a furlough, a layoff, or a full transition from your prior job, or your a recent graduate, now is the time to take action each and every day.
Sure- emotions run rampant- how could they not? It doesn't take much these days if you watch the news or subscribe to just about any social media platform.
However, remember that you are in control of what you read, how you spend your time, and what you think and do each day.
Experiencing a job or career transition is no different. In fact, it's especially important to maximize your time each day.
Remember- this situation you are in is temporary. But you have to use your time wisely.
Create a schedule; get into a routine. Now more than ever this is critical to your next move, your next step on your journey.
Here are 5 tips to help you maximize your time each day:
Keep a schedule- electronically, on paper, on a chalkboard. Use sticky notes. It doesn't matter- just have one to help keep you motivated and on track.
Wake up at the same time each week day. Your job is now to find a job, not take an extended vacation.
Include time in your schedule for things you love- exercise, prayer, meditation, reading, visiting with friends/neighbors/family, cooking, etc.
Get a fresh set of eyes. Get an accountability partner or coach to help guide you. Oftentimes, when we focus on something for a while, we cannot see other options. It's almost blinding in a sense and we cannot get out of our own way. Myself included. I have several mentors, coaches and belong to many groups that help hold me accountable for what my personal and business mission is each day.
Commit to a better tomorrow and believe in yourself. Remember- a job is temporary, being out of work is temporary, but a career is forever. And your job title is not you. You are you- your beliefs, education and experiences.
So no matter if you've gone astray, don't have a routine, are starting from square one, or haven't made the progress you've expected, each day, today is a new day.
Decide. Commit to doing something different. Right now. For today, tomorrow and the next day.
Your future is in your hands.
