Three months from now where do you want to be?
Have you thought about this lately? A lot has happened over the past six months in this world, and a lot is still happening currently. And, a lot of things are unknown.
When I coach people they often lack clarity on where they currently are and where they want to go. I’m a firm believer that you have to start with the end in mind. So let’s talk about that.
So, if you're unsure about your "ultimate goal", where do you want to be three months from now? And what are you doing to work toward that goal?
The world is so fast and furious nowadays that we often don’t allow ourselves time to sit and think and contemplate, or even write anything down. However, many of us have instinctive needs to do that. And yet, often times, we are putting our own needs last.
Well if you are embarking on a journey towards doing something new professionally, this is critical to your future success. Discovery. Contemplation. Writing it down.
Thinking about the next 90 days, or 3 months, what do you want to:
Answering these 3 questions alone can get you on a new path to where you want to be in 3 months.
Then, add these specific steps to your calendar. Chances are what you write down will take time to accomplish. Here is an example:
In 3 months, I would like to be in a new job. Great!
Stop- Procrastinating. Having a negative attitude. Putting off my self-development.
Start- Working on my resume, writing accomplishments, assessing my strengths, preparing for interviews and network.
Continue- Engaging on LinkedIn bi-weekly; making time to prepare myself for the above activities.
As we approach the holiday season, the worst thing you can do is say to yourself, "I’ll worry about this after the holidays." Well we all know what happens with New Year’s resolutions; the average commitment is about 13 days. This is a commitment to what you’re doing for 40 to 50 hours a week. This is your commitment to your profession, your family, to clients or customers or patients you serve. This is your life. This is your next 3 months.
You know I’m a big believer in focusing on what you can control and this activity is something you can do now; it’s something simple - you can control.
Sit down. Put pen to paper this week and answer your stop, start and continue questions.
Remember… Life is about choices and you have to focus on the pieces that you can control.
